better together

A Bountiful Partnership

The bountiful partnership with FPC Georgetown began over 30 years ago when Down Home Ranch was merely a plot of land and a dream. Don Stearns, active FPC member and cousin of DHR Founder Judy Horton, found great interest in the mission of Down Home Ranch and decided to jump in to help! Don and his wife Nancy advocated for Down Home Ranch and shortly after, First Presbyterian Church graciously chose us as one of their “Community Missions.” In addition to hosting an annual informational booth for DHR at their community-wide Mission Fair, FPC also donated much-needed funds to the DHR mission and brought many volunteers to the Ranch over the years. Without their support, we undoubtedly would not be the Down Home Ranch you see today!

A quote from Marty Curtis, 2nd year Elder, Worship Committee, First Presbyterian Church: “FPC has supported Down Home Ranch in several ways for decades, and one way is by ordering Poinsettias and Easter Lilies. The plants have always made our Sanctuary and Worship Center such beautiful places in which to worship!. As an elder on our church Worship Committee, I had the pleasure of working with DHR in 2020 on those orders. The poinsettias that were delivered in December were perhaps the prettiest poinsettias we have EVER received! Although we weren't worshipping together on the premises, we could see the lovely plants over our livestreamed service and it was such a treat!

We are aware that the DHR Gardens help provide opportunities for vocational training and paid employment for Ranchers, as well as revenue for the Ranch. We know that the Gardens Team puts a lot of effort into the work, thereby helping build a foundation for long-term success.”

Pictured here you will see DHR Board Member, Martha Adams-Heard and her daughter Rachel alongside Don and Nancy Stearns. Because of Don and Nancy’s passion for those we serve, this beautiful partnership with First Presbyterian Church blossomed. DHR will be forever grateful for FPC in Georgetown for believing in our mission from the very start! We are honored to have your support year after year, and so thankful the Easter Lilies and Poinsettias bring you such joy.

The Better Together campaign is aimed at sharing the beauty and strength behind the friendships made at Down Home Ranch. This campaign showcases how the mission of DHR brings people from all walks of life to stand together in community. We are stronger, we are happier, and we are better when we are together.
