There’s something powerful about having a place to call your own. A space where your routines are yours. Your mornings, your meals, your schedule. A place where independence isn’t something you’re working toward—it’s something you’re living every day. At Down Home Ranch, our Supported Independent Living (SIL) program is built for Ranchers who are ready for that step.
What Supported Independent Living Looks Like
SIL is designed for Ranchers who can live independently, with support available when needed—but not built into every moment.
On the Ranch, that looks like:
- Two-bedroom cottages and micro homes tucked into the landscape
- One- or two-person living, with no live-in staff
- Private bedrooms, decorated to reflect each Rancher’s personality
- Private or semi-private bathrooms
- The option to live with a housemate, partner, or spouse
This is real life. Not a program that feels separate from the world but a home that’s part of a larger, connected community. You’re not alone out here. You’re just living your own life within it.
Independence with Purpose
SIL Ranchers are part of the daily rhythm of the Ranch. They go to work. They show up for their commitments. They take care of their homes. They build relationships with neighbors, coworkers, and friends.
That means being able to manage day-to-day life with minimal support, including:
- Personal hygiene and grooming
- Preparing meals and cleaning up
- Keeping up with laundry and light housework
- Planning groceries and meals
- Maintaining their home and yard
- Getting along with a housemate, if applicable
- Showing up to work on time and contributing to the Ranch
This isn’t about perfection. It’s about responsibility, consistency, and the ability to follow through.
Who Thrives in SIL
Supported Independent Living is a great fit for someone who:
- Is 18 or older and has finished high school
- Is independent with most daily living activities
- Can safely navigate their environment
- Does not pose a danger to themselves or others
- Can manage behavioral health needs without impacting independence
- Is self-motivated and able to follow through on daily responsibilities
But just as important as the skills is the desire.
The Ranch works best for people who want to be here.
People who want to:
- Be part of a community where everyone contributes
- Live on a working Texas ranch
- Build relationships with neighbors and coworkers
- Spend time outdoors and stay connected to something bigger than themselves
What’s Included
The Supported Independent Living program is private pay at $5,100 per month.
That includes:
- Room and board
- Access to the Day Program
- Ranch sponsored events and activities
- Transportation related to Ranch programming
Additional personal expenses are the responsibility of the Rancher.
More Than a Place to Live
What makes SIL different isn’t just the housing, it’s the environment around it.
You’re waking up on a working ranch.
You’re part of a community where people know your name.
You’re contributing, not just participating.
Independence here doesn’t mean isolation. It means having your own space, while still belonging.
