Weekend Direct Support Professional



The Weekend Direct Support Professional (WDSP) is a part time non-exempt, hourly position that includes overnights, reporting directly to the Residential Manager. The WDSP shares the home and lives of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The WDSP provides guidance and instruction in all aspects of the individual’s life, so that they may reach their full potential with a goal of living independently.


  • History of supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or other vulnerable populations
  • Minimum age of 21
  • Excellent driving record and able to pass extensive background investigation
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Flexible, organized, patient, reliable, trustworthy, loyal, outgoing and friendly, good sense of humor
  • Stay over the weekend in the home with individuals served
  • Sleeping arrangements may be in the common area of the home on a rollaway bed
  • No pets or dependents of the WDSP may visit while on duty
  • Must provide monthly availability of at least 2 weekends, by end of the first business week of the prior month
  • Must either be scheduled to work or be identified as a backup for at least 2 weekends a month
  • Able to maintain confidentiality under requirements of the HIPAA statutes


  • Provide coverage in the residential environment as needed and as assigned by the Program Manager
  • Coordinate necessary shopping activities
  • Assists with meal preparation and ensures that meals are prepared
  • Assists with financial planning and management for individuals serviced
  • Complete household routines
  • Ensures maintenance of household is completed
  • Provides transportation and maintain vehicle(s)
  • Understands individual service planning and person directed planning process
  • Promote health and wellness of all individuals supported
  • Is familiar with and carries out the organizational mission
  • Is aware of the requirement for documentation, and is able to manage these requirements effectively
  • Enhances the ability for individual to lead a self-determined life by proving the support and information necessary to build self-esteem, assertiveness and to make decisions
  • Knowledge of formal and informal assessment practices to respond to individual’s needs, desires and interest
  • Attend staff meetings, workshops and trainings
  • Willing to better understand the diverse challenges that are faced by individuals with IDD including: community supports, building relationships, etc.
  • Read and comply with all requirements and duties as outlined in staff training, in the Policies and Procedures for Intermediate Care Facilitate/ Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (ICF/IDD) and Home and Community Based Services (HCS) at Down Home Ranch and in the Employee Handbook
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Hourly position paid every two weeks.
  • Access to Ranch facilities and amenities
  • If worked while identified as a backup, a $25.00 stipend will be paid in additional to regular pay


  • Typical work schedule consists of supporting individuals in the home Friday 4:30pm to Sunday at 5:00pm
  • Schedule and hours will be adjusted according to needs of Down Home Ranch as determined by the Program Manager
