POSITION SUMMARY

The Camp Nurse is a temporary stipend compensated professional position located in Enterprise, reporting to the Camp Director. The nurse is responsible for administering first aid, tending to camper and counselor illness, lead the check-in/check-out process, administer all medications, and promoting the overall well-being of each individual who attends camp. The nurse supports the mission of Down Home Ranch by providing a high level of medical support to those attending and working at camp. The nurse will join with other staff in a high-level commitment to provide an excellent quality of life for the individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities served through Ranch programming.

Typical work schedule is Sunday through Friday

This position is expected to be filled for the month of June.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Implements the goals of Enterprise
  • Coordinate with a campers support system to ensure a high level of care
  • Complete focused assessment, medication reconciliation and medical administration
  • Ensure all medications have a pharmacy label or have an attached physicians’ orders as needed
  • Provide training and monitoring to unlicensed personnel and ensure camp counselors receive appropriate training
  • Coordinate ordering of medical supplies needed for camp
  • Create Medication Administration Records (MARs) based off medical pharmacy label or physicians’ orders
  • Maintain a positive, outgoing, and excited attitude when supporting campers
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the special needs of assigned campers
  • Visit with parents/caregivers and be prepared to answer any questions regarding care of assigned campers
  • Promptly complete assigned work projects as needed during camp
  • Enhances the ability for individual to lead a self-determined life by proving the support and information necessary to build self-esteem, assertiveness and to make decisions
  • Promotes health and wellness of all individuals supported
  • Is aware of the requirement for documentation, and is able to manage these requirements effectively
  • Attends staff meetings, cross functional committees, workshops and training
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities, as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum age of 21; excellent driving record and able to pass extensive background investigation
  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university or equivalent experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Lives on the Ranch in employment contingent housing
  • Remains compliant with the Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 301
  • Must be a Nurse licensed in the State of Texas
  • Available after-hours for face-to-face assessment
  • Receive clinical supervision as required by specific nursing licenses on any matter that does not fall within professional scope
  • Comfortable working closely with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or other vulnerable populations
  • Completes work with a high degree of autonomy
  • Experience with data entry into an electronic medical record or database
  • Provides excellent customer service
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret medical reports and standards
  • History of supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or other vulnerable populations
  • Detail-oriented, works well under pressure, takes initiative to solve problems, meets deadlines
  • Outstanding interpersonal relationship building, employee coaching, and development skills
  • Reads and complies with all policies and procedures in the Down Home Ranch Employee Handbook
  • Able to write and prepare documentation and reports, as requested.
  • Maintain confidentiality under requirements of the HIPAA statutes
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to clearly communicate to employees at all levels of the organization
  • Team player with strong skills in leadership, training, and delegation of duties
