A Culture of Being Person Centered

We are excited to announce a new partnership between Down Home Ranch and Better Lives, with financial support from Money Follows the Person, coordinated through Integral Care. This collaboration will launch an innovative training initiative to certify two Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) as trainers in Person Centered Thinking (PCT), guided by mentor trainer Jeff Garrison-Tate, CEO of Better Lives.

At Down Home Ranch, we are committed to providing person centered services and understand the vital role DSPs play in our mission. The goal is to bring PCT training directly to the frontline DSPs who work alongside people with disabilities every day.

PCT training focuses on understanding and respecting each person's unique preferences, strengths, and needs. It emphasizes building genuine relationships and ensuring that person has a voice in decisions that affect their lives. Rather than just creating plans, PCT encourages active listening, engagement, and collaboration with those we support.

With two certified PCT trainers who are also DSPs, we will enhance our training programs across the organization to ensure every employee has the skills to support the people we serve to thrive. Our initiative will also include “Coaching” sessions that offer practical, hands-on experience to embed essential PCT skills within the organization. Our hope is to integrate person centered practices throughout all of our operations, fostering a culture that truly respects and responds to the needs and preferences of those we support.
