Vocational Training, Employment, and Continuing Education
Down Home Ranch provides rich opportunities and training for growth in mind, body and spirit for all Ranchers. Every person benefits from stimulating and dignified employment and the chance to learn and try new things throughout the arc of a long, well-lived life.
Each Rancher who wants to work gets a job at Down Home Ranch. Ranchers are evaluated every six months, at which time they may choose a different vocational area if they wish, and perhaps receive a raise in pay.

The Village Council
Ranchers make up the Village Council, which meets weekly. The Mayor is elected by the Council and is assisted as necessary by staff, leading the discussion of concerns most on the Ranchers’ minds, from planning weekend activities, to selecting vacation preferences, to agreeing upon needed improvements in Ranch infrastructure or programs.
Through participation in Village Council, Ranchers have a genuine voice in the running of their community. The Council has been instrumental in successfully addressing the following matters:
Installation of outside lighting in the Village
The decision to take a cruise for their coming vacation
Repair and improvement of roads and bicycle paths
Changes in the work schedule and selection of projects
Any Rancher may run for a place on the Council. Members are elected for six-month terms by majority vote and elections are held to coincide with national or state elections whenever practical. Meetings are held in compliance with Robert’s Rules of Order.
