New Research Directions:
Down Syndrome in the 21st Century Advances in medicine have enabled people with Down syndrome to lead longer, healthier lives, but cognitive dysfunction limits their independence. Dr. William C. Mobley and a team of scientists and clinicians at the Stanford University Down Syndrome Research Center are examining the mechanisms that create problems with cognition. Their efforts may one day provide treatments that will improve the lives of people with Down syndrome and could eventually lead to treatments for other cognitive disabilities, including Fragile X syndrome.
In October 2008, Down Home Ranch, the Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas and the Rise School brought Dr. William Mobley of Stanford University and Dr. Michael Harpold of the Down Syndrome Research and Treatment Foundation to Austin for a special presentation. Over 200 people listented as Dr. Mobley explained the neuroscience behind new and exciting research that holds great promise for people with Down Syndrome.
Such research takes a lot of time and a lot of money, and we're doing our best to provide support. We applaud the work of the Drs. Mobley and Harpold and encourage all to get behind and support their work. To learn more, visit the links above.
